Vietnam U20 eliminated from 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers: Apology and tactical void

Vietnam U20 ended their 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifying campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Iran U20 in the final Group C match. Captain Quoc Khanh and head coach Yutaka Ikeuchi both apologised to supporters. Yet the apology does not address the most worrying part: the team failed to win a single match in the whole qualifying campaign. Ikeuchi said the team considered different options to achieve the best possible result, but could not accomplish the goal. The captain's apology to fans and to future generations of Vietnam U20 players confirms that qualification was the official target and that the failure is felt deeply. Financially, this is not a transfer market issue, but there is an opportunity cost. The Vietnam Football Federation invested time, money and staff into this age group, and failing to reach the continental finals reduces the return on that investment.
